PLATEAU STATE GOVERNOR CONGRATULATES NIGERIANS ON DEMOCRACY DAY, CALLS FOR FAIRNESS, JUSTICE IN ELECTORAL PROCESS

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians for accepting democracy as the best model of governance in the nation and called for its sustainability for the development and progress of the country.

Governor Mutfwang, in a statement in Jos to mark Democracy Day, described it as a landmark moment for Nigeria: "It was on that day in 1993 that Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and regional divides came together to vote, symbolizing a collective desire for democratic leadership."

June 12, the Governor said, also honours the memory of the 1993 Presidential elections which were regarded as the freest and fairest in the country's history.

He said democracy remains the best form of governance where the people have the power to decide who governs them.

"As we commemorate this day, we should also acknowledge the strides we have made in establishing democracy as Nigeria's governance model. In that regard, political stakeholders must uphold fairness, equity, justice, and the rule of law in our electoral process."

He paid glowing tributes to the nation's patriots who struggled, and even made the supreme sacrifice, for Nigeria to return to democratic rule, pointing out that through their relentless efforts, Nigeria has experienced 25 years of uninterrupted transformative leadership since the inception of the current democratic dispensation.

Governor Mutwang called on political leaders to prioritize the welfare and security of the people as well as work towards safeguarding the country's unity.

Acknowledging the security and economic hardships the citizens are going through, the Governor appealed for patience, pledging his administration's commitment to transparent, accountable and inclusive governance.

RELOCATION OF NYSC CAMP HAVE EXPOSED APC INSENSITIVITY TO THE PLIGHT AND SECURITY OF CORPS MEMBERS

BY GCM STRATEGIC TEAM

 8TH JUNE, 2024

The recent press statement issued by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State is rife with misleading information and unfounded accusations. The statement erroneously asserts that the relocation of the NYSC camp from Mangu to Du, in the Jos South local government area, was conducted under duress and for personal gain. This narrative is both inaccurate and misleading.

Firstly, the decision to relocate the NYSC camp was driven by legitimate security concerns, which the APC conveniently overlooks. The new location in Du offers enhanced security measures, ensuring the safety of corps members and staff. Contrary to the APC's claims, the previous site in Mangu could not be adequately secured despite best efforts, necessitating the move to a more secure environment.

Secondly, the APC's assertion that the new facility is owned by the wife of a prominent PDP member, thereby suggesting a conflict of interest, is baseless. There is no credible evidence to support this allegation. Such claims are intended to distract from the primary issue of ensuring the safety and well-being of the NYSC participants.

Moreover, the APC's argument that the funds used for rent at the new location could have been better spent on enhancing security at the old camp is unfounded. The relocation was not a matter of financial mismanagement but a necessary step to safeguard the lives of the corps members and staff. Allocating resources to an inherently less secure location would have been irresponsible and potentially dangerous.

Lastly, the statement's depiction of the old camp as being vandalized and reduced to a grazing field is a gross exaggeration and untrue. The camp was not abandoned to such a state; it was simply relocated to a more secure setting to address pressing security concerns.

The APC's press statement is a transparent attempt to undermine the PDP-led government and sow misinformation. We urge the public to disregard these baseless claims and consider the facts. The relocation was a prudent decision made in the best interest of those involved, prioritizing their safety above all else.

God bless GCM,

God bless Plateau State,

God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bridging the Gap #youthGovtracka.

After work, I often sit and reflect on how the day went. Yesterday particularly was a great day, beginning with a sense of gratitude for God’s grace in being alive. While many things happened throughout the day, what stood out the most were the smiles from the children I saw while on the train.

Yes! We took a ride on the train, and the view of sites on the Plateau was beautiful. When the train stopped at Bukuru, seeing many people witness a train moving for the first time in their lives was truly significant. To me and many of them, it symbolizes how small beginnings can lead to great things in our time. The smiles and waves from people as the train passed by were heartwarming, offering hope for a brighter future. With milestones like this, our state is receiving the transformation it deserves.

Prior to the train ride, I had the honor of hosting the team from #YouthGovtracka. Their aim is to bridge the gap between governors and the vibrant youth population in Nigeria, empowering citizens with the tools to hold their representatives accountable. I am excited about the discussion on youth involvement in politics. We shared thoughts on getting a seat at the table and the importance of being knowledgeable. As a young person, I recognize the importance of representing well, building great relationships, and differentiating between competence and character.

Reflecting on these experiences, I see the immense value of social capital—our supportive relationships. The train ride with friends highlighted the importance of these connections. I look forward to more opportunities to build and strengthen these bonds, which contribute significantly to personal growth and community development.
